Crunch Stumble Against Penguins

Syracuse, NY (December 16, 2011) - Patrick Maroon recorded a goal and an assist but the Syracuse Crunch fell to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at the War Memorial Arena tonight by a final score of 3-2.

The Crunch and Penguins were locked in an even battle until the last three minutes of the first frame. Wilkes-Barres/Scranton's Brandon DeFazio beat Crunch netminder Iiro Tarkki to give the Penguins a 1-0 lead 17:21 into the first period. Penguins center Ryan Craig made it 2-0 when he scored two minutes later.

After a scoreless second period, the Crunch struck with 14 minutes remaining in the third. Maroon fielded a Kyle Cumiskey pass and beat Penguins goaltender Scott Munroe to make it 2-1.

DeFazio scored his second goal of the game late in the final frame extending the Penguin's lead to 3-1.

J.F. Jacques brought the Crunch within one, for a final score of 3-2, when he scored his eighth goal of the season with 30 seconds remaining in regulation.

The Crunch are back in action tomorrow night when they take on the Adirondack Phantoms at the War Memorial Arena. Puck drop is at 7:30 p.m.
