NORFOLK - Troy Bodie broke a 2-2 tie midway through the final frame as the Norfolk Admirals (1-0-0-0) opened the 2012-13 regular season with a 4-2 win over the Worcester Sharks (0-1-0-0) on Friday night at Norfolk Scope Arena.

John Mitchell, Peter Holland and Kyle Palmieri also scored for the Admirals, who out-shot the Sharks, 25-21. Goaltender Frederik Andersen earned the win in his North American professional debut by making 19 saves.

The Admirals took a 1-0 lead just 2:07 into the contest. Devante Smith-Pelly sent a pass from the right circle to Mitchell in the left circle. Mitchell's wrist shot went between the legs of Worcester goaltender Alex Stalock and into the net.

Norfolk's lead doubled just over ten minutes later off a turnover. Holland picked off the pass of a Sharks attacker in the neutral zone and sped over the blueline through the left wing. Holland's wrist shot eluded Stalock's blocker and found its mark in the top of the net at 12:47 for a 2-0 Norfolk lead.

Worcester came out of the gates firing in the second period, out-shooting Norfolk, 11-6, in the frame. Andersen held the Sharks off the scoresheet until a power play late in the stanza. Travis Oleksuk tipped a Matt Irwin shot from the left point past Andersen at 15:41 to cut Norfolk's lead to one goal.

The Sharks tied the game at 2-2 less than three minutes later. While being checked to the ice by an Admirals player, Sebastian Stalberg sent a wrist shot from the right point that eluded Andersen at 18:33.

The crowd of 5,004 at Norfolk Scope Arena got back on its feet 2:36 into the final frame as Bodie dropped the gloves with Matt Pelech, who had boarded Admirals forward Chris Wagner. On his first shift after exiting the penalty box, Bodie stationed himself in front of Stalock and tipped a Jay Rosehill shot from the right half wall past the goaltender. The tally at 10:41 put the Admirals ahead, 3-2.

Palmieri added an empty-net tally with less than four seconds left to seal the 4-2 win for Norfolk.

Stalock (21 saves, 24 shots) took the loss.

Norfolk was 0-for-3 on the power play. Worcester was 1-for-3 with the man advantage.
