Checkers Announce Season-Opening Roster

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Charlotte Checkers Head Coach and General Manager Jeff Daniels today announced the team's opening night roster, which consists of 15 forwards, seven defensemen and two goaltenders. All players on the roster will be available for Saturday's regular-season premiere at Houston (8:05 p.m. Eastern).
Additionally, Daniels announced the team's captains for the 2012-13 season. Center Brett Sutter returns for his second campaign as team captain, while left wing Nicolas Blanchard begins his fifth consecutive season as an alternate captain for the Carolina Hurricanes' top minor-league affiliate. Both players are entering their sixth professional seasons. The team's other alternate captain position will be filled by forward Chris Terry and defenseman Bobby Sanguinetti on a rotating basis.

The Checkers begin a nine-game road trip Saturday in Houston (8:05 p.m. ET - ESPN730.com) to start the season and will return to Charlotte for the home opener on Sunday, Nov. 4 at 3 p.m. Tickets are available at www.ticketmaster.com and the Time Warner Cable Arena box office.
