Norfolk Admirals News Release
NORFOLK, Va. - Juraj Simek's goal in the sixth round of the shootout spelled sudden victory for the Norfolk Admirals (30-25-3-1) as they defeated the Springfield Falcons (18-31-9-3) 3-2 on Saturday night at the Norfolk Scope Arena. The Admirals now embark on a five-game road trip through the East Division beginning on Wednesday night in Binghamton against the Senators.
Springfield opened scoring 7:18 into the game with a goal while skating four-on-four. Rob Hisey sent a pass from the Springfield half of the neutral zone to Charles Linglet just before the Norfolk blueline. Linglet sped past two Norfolk defenders and beat Admirals goaltender Dustin Tokarski with a shot between the legs.
Norfolk knotted the score at 1-1 at 8:25 with a five-on-three power play goal. Paul Szczechura won a faceoff from the right circle back to Ty Wishart at the right point. Wishart unleashed a wrist shot from the top of the right circle through traffic and past the glove of Springfield goaltender Devan Dubnyk for Wishart's ninth goal of the season.
Springfield took a 2-1 lead on a Linglet power play goal just 19 seconds into the second stanza. Chad Wiseman sent a pass from the left circle to Linglet at the top of the right circle. Linglet one-timed the puck past the left leg of Tokarski for his second goal of the game.
Brandon Bochenski leveled the score at two goals apiece just 2:50 into the third period. Mark Parrish started a rush up ice from his own zone and dropped a pass from the left half wall to Bochenski at the left point. Bochenski sent a wrist shot from the left faceoff dot top-shelf, stick-side on Dubnyk for his 19th goal of the season.
Neither team found the back of the net for the remainder of regulation and overtime, as both Dubnyk and Tokarski came up with several key saves to force the shootout.
After both Chris Minard and Parrish scored in the first round of the shootout, no one found the back of the net through the next four rounds of the shootout. After Tokarski stopped Liam Reddox in the top of the sixth round, Juraj Simek beat Dubnyk in the bottom of the sixth to give the Admirals a 2-1 win in the shootout and a 3-2 win in the game.
Dustin Tokarski (32 shots, 30 saves) earned the win. Devan Dubnyk (52 shots, 50 saves) was again saddled with a loss despite playing spectacularly.
Norfolk was 1-6 on the power play. Springfield was 1-3.
The Admirals now embark on a five-game road trip through the East Division beginning on Wednesday night in Binghamton against the Senators.
