Admirals Acquire Adam Phillips from Kalamazoo
September 28, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL) - Norfolk Admirals News Release
NORFOLK, VA. - The Norfolk Admirals, proud ECHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers, have acquired the rights to defenseman Adam Phillips from the Kalamazoo Wings, head coach Rod Aldoff announced on Wednesday.
Phillips, 26, brings a big 6'6" - 194 lbs. frame to the blue line along with two years of ECHL experience. Through 119 games with the Stockton Thunder and Kalamazoo Wings, the right-handed shot totaled 48 points, posting nine goals each year.
"Adam's strength and experience are really going to help us back there, no doubt about it. His presence is going to help provide depth, something any team hopes to have," Aldoff said of the trade. "His right-handedness is really going to work the point for us and I'm looking forward to him being a big part of our team this year."
In exchange for Phillips, the Admirals sent the rights to goaltender Nic Riopel to the Wings. Over the course of the 2015-16 season, Riopel appeared in 32 games for the Ads, compiling a 2.56 goals against average and a .924 save percentage.
