Adams Just Misses Cycle, Travs Win Again

August 25, 2016 - Texas League (TL1)
Arkansas Travelers News Release

Tulsa, OK - The Arkansas Travelers defeated the Tulsa Drillers 7-2 on Thursday night at ONEOK Field.

LF Caleb Adams finished a double shy of the cycle with a 4-for-5 night, a home run, triple, three RBIs and two runs scored.

1B Alex Yarbrough, who extended his hitting streak to seven straight games, went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a stolen base.

After RHP Alex Blackford (W, 8-7) worked five innings and allowed the two runs on four hits with three walks and three strikeouts, the Travelers bullpen did not surrender a hit over the final four innings.

RHP Victor Alcantara walked two over two frames, and RHP Nate Fury and RHP Eric Alonzo both pitched 1-2-3 frames in the eighth and ninth.

The Travs scored twice in the third and once in the fourth to jump on top 3-0, but 1B Cody Bellinger, who was robbed by Zach Welz' star-worthy catch a night prior, launched a two-run home run to slice the deficit to 3-2 in the fourth. That was the final hit in the game for Tulsa.

Arkansas added three runs in the sixth and one in the seventh for insurance.

The Travs manufactured double digit hits for a second straight night. After belting 13 on Wednesday, Arkansas had 12 on Thursday.

With the win and a Northwest Arkansas loss, the Travs moved to 1/2 game behind the Naturals for first place in the Texas League North second half standings.

The Travs, who are 9-1 against Tulsa over the last 10 meetings, will conclude the four-game series on Friday night at ONEOK Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
