Aces Snag 5-3 Win Over Fresno In 11 Innings

April 24, 2010 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Reno Aces News Release

FRESNO, Calif.-Jason Urquidez was masterful out of the bullpen, and Carlos Corporan delivered the go-ahead two-run single that lifted the Reno Aces to a 5-3 victory over the Fresno Grizzlies in 11 innings Friday night in the series finale at Chukchansi Park.

Fresno pushed across a run in the eighth to tie the score at 3-3, and the game would stay that way until the 11th, when Corporan slapped a two-out, two-run single through the left side that vaulted the Aces to a 5-3 advantage. Fresno went quietly in the bottom of the 11th, and Reno escaped with the victory and avoided a series sweep.

Urquidez (1-0) came on in the eighth and was brilliant, working the final 3.2 innings to earn the win. Urquidez scattered two hits and no runs, walking one and striking out one. Aces starter Matt Torra was again very effective, yet pinned with a no-decision. Torra allowed two runs on six hits over 6.2 innings of work.

The loss fell to Fresno's Denny Bautista (1-1), who battled a bout with wildness before surrendering Corporan's clutch base hit.

Ed Rogers led Reno's offense with four hits and two runs batted in, falling just a triple shy of the cycle.

Reno now heads back to Aces Ballpark to kick-off a four-game series with the Colorado Springs Sky Sox. The action begins on Saturday night, with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch. RHP Kevin Mulvey (0-0, 4.50 ERA) gets the nod for Reno, and the Sky Sox will counter with RHP Jhoulys Chacin (2-0, 2.25 ERA). On Saturday, 2,500 fans will receive a reversible Aces bucket hat. Tickets for all Aces games start at just $7, and are available by calling the Reno Aces box office at (775) 334-7000 or by visiting www.RenoAces.com.
