Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Alaska Aces enter the 2009-10 season with 26 players listed on their opening day roster.

The Aces play host to Victoria this weekend at Sullivan Arena in a rematch of the 2009 West Division Finals, won by Alaska in five games. Friday, Saturday, and Monday games have been scheduled for a 7:15 p.m. face-off. West Division and National Conference championship banners, honoring the 2008-09 Alaska team that came within one victory of its second Kelly Cup in four years, will be raised prior to Friday's opening puck drop.

Curtis Fraser joins the Aces after two full seasons in the AHL and an ECHL playoff run to the Kelly Cup Finals with Las Vegas in 2008. In 16 games with the Wranglers in the postseason, Fraser had eight points (7g-1a), including the game-winning goal that finished off Alaska in Game Five of the '08 conference semi-finals.

A four-year stand-out at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks, he ranks second in school history with 148 games played, racking up 114 points (59g-55a) in his collegiate career. He enjoyed career bests of 19 goals, 16 assists and 35 points in his senior campaign of 2006-07. Prior to enrolling at UAF in 2003, Fraser piled up 105 points on 53 goals and 52 assists in his last year of juniors with the Vernon Vipers (BCHL).

The addition of Fraser, coupled with the re-assignment of Anthony Peluso (a sixth-round draft choice of St. Louis in 2007) to Alaska by the Blues, meant the Aces had to make a couple of roster moves. Forward Luke Erickson, who ranked second on the team with 21 goals a year ago, and goaltender Kevin Nastiuk, who went 5-1 in six starts for the Aces last year, were released by the team, while defenseman Alexander Hellstrom will be re-assigned.
