K-Wings Announce Captains

Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings, proud member of the ECHL and affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers and San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League, announce its

captains and opening night roster for the upcoming 2009-10 season, which begins tomorrow Thursday, October 15th in Reading, Pennsylvania against the Royals.

Wearing the letters on this year's team will be forwards Sam Ftorek, Darryl Bootland, and defenseman Jeff Mason.

"The three players selected are well respected in our locker room and have shown they understand what it takes to win and more importantly what it takes to be a K-Wing," said Nick Bootland, director of hockey operations/head coach. "We (K-Wings) have prided ourselves in selecting captains that are quality individuals that possess the ability to lead by example and vocal leaders."

A 12-year pro, Ftorek will wear the "C" for the K-Wings. The newly appointed captain is entering his first season with the K-Wings.

Assistant captains for the 2009-10 season will be Bootland and Mason. Both players are entering their first seasons in Kalamazoo. Bootland, who is a veteran and a former NHL-er, is entering his 8th season as a professional, while Mason, who is entering his fourth professional season, wore letters the past two seasons with his former team, the Gwinnett Gladiators.

Also announced at the luncheon was the opening night roster for the K-Wings. Kalamazoo roster will feature 23 players, with four players (Julien Ellis, Blake Friesen, Jordan Grant and Olivier Legault) starting the season on the injured reserve. The K-Wings will also be without the services of Brian McGuirk, who is still on call-up with the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League.

Single-game tickets for any of the K-Wings 36 regular season home games are currently on sale at the Wings Stadium Ticket Office.

Kalamazoo starts its 36-game regular season home schedule on Saturday, October 24th against Reading at 7:30 p.m. Customary for opening night, all fans will receive a FREE magnetic schedule courtesy of Meijer. Also, fans will receive a FREE team poster courtesy of Fed-Ex Office and Men's Wearhouse and Tux.

Tickets for all K-Wings home games range in price from $9.90-$14.90 for adults and only $6.90 for kids ages 12 and under. Fans can purchase individual game tickets at the Wings Stadium Ticket Office or at any Ticketmaster outlet. The price for all K-Wings premium night games (all colored ice and New Year's Eve game) will be increased by $1.

All tickets that are purchased for any K-Wings game on game-day will be increased by $1 per ticket.
