Alaska Aces News Release

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Peter Aubry recorded his first shutout as an Ace with 27 saves as Alaska blanked the Long Beach Ice Dogs 3-0 Saturday before 4,779 at Long Beach Arena.

Stung by some harsh words from their coach, Davis Payne, after last night's 2-0 defeat at the hands of Long Beach and its goaltender Chris Madden, Alaska burst out of the dressing room and fired 24 shots on goal in the first period alone, finally breaking through on Joe Talbot's second goal of the year at 14:28. The 24-7 spread in shots netted only a 1-0 lead after the opening 20 minutes, but Saturday's starter for the Ice Dogs, Olivier Michaud, began to weaken midway through the second period, as Chris Minard and Kimbi Daniels scored less than 90 seconds apart to widen the margin to 3-0 heading into the final period.

The defense took over from that point, limiting Long Beach to just seven shots over the final 20 minutes as Alaska polished off its 14-day road trip with its first shutout victory of the season and its fourth win in five games. Neither team converted either of its power play chances, and the Aces have now erased the last 18 opportunities for the opposition with the man advantage.

Third-place Alaska (6-5-1 overall) returns to action Wednesday night at Sullivan Arena in the opener of a three-game series against Victoria at 7:15 p.m. Game two will be held Saturday at 7:15 p.m. on Military Appreciation Night, with special intermission festivities and demonstrations held by those on base in Anchorage. All three home games against the Salmon Kings will be broadcast live on AM 750 KFQD and available via video webcast at www.alaskaaces.com, courtesy of B2 Networks. Sunday's series finale will begin at 1:30 p.m. and will be followed by the KeyBank Sunday Skate with the Aces.
