BOISE, IDAHO - Joe Basaraba's re-direct goal off a pass from Joe Faust with 49.9 seconds to go in overtime gave the homestanding Idaho Steelheads at 2-1 win over the Alaska Aces Friday night at the CenturyLink Arena.

The OT loss stops the Aces win streak at 6, though Alaska did pick up a point for taking the game to the extra period.

An evenly-played first period yielded no goals and a handful of scoring opportunities. Despite being outshot 14-6, the Aces had about the same amount of dangerous moments as the Steelheads around the opposition net.

In the second, Danny Moynihan gave the Aces a 1-0 lead with a driving wrister from the right faceoff circle, beating Idaho goaltender Phillipe Derosiers stick-side at 7:20. Assists to Marc-Andre Levesque and Steve Tarasuk.

Later in the period the Aces had a 5 on 3 power play, and during that time Tim Coffman zipped a pass across the goalmouth to Peter Sivak. Sivak's quick snapshot was miraculously gloved by Derosiers. A look at the replay, unavailable to game on-ice officials, showed that Derosier caught the puck with his glove inside the goal and across the line...but the period ended 1-0 Aces.

The third period for Alaska was good defense by good offense. Time of possession in the the Idaho zone was plentiful and consistent. However, it was Idaho that capitalized on a rare opportunity. David Glen got a loose puck on the left wing boards. He snapped a shot that Alaska goaltender Kevin Carr knocked away, but the rebound went right to Brandon Trook in the slot and he zipped a shot top shelf past Carr at 15:02 and it was 1-1.

In overtime, the Aces best chance was a chip shot that went end-over-end over the crossbar off the stick of Coffman. That preceded a trip down the ice by Joe Basaraba and Joe Faust. Faust carried in left wing and spotted Basaraba racing to the net. Faust threaded a pass through legs and onto the stick of Basaraba who steered the puck past a sprawling Carr and the Steelheads got the extra ECHL point.

Carr finished with 28 saves, while Derosiers stopped 33 Alaska shots.

The Aces were 0-3 on the power play, while the Steelheads were 0-2.

The Aces and Steelheads will finish their three-game series Saturday with a 5:10pm AST game at the CenturyLink Arena. Alaska won game one 5-3 Wednesday.
