Boise, ID (12/3/16)- Branden Komm stopped all three shooters in the shootout to earn his third victory this season in the breakaway competition, as the Idaho Steelheads (13-6-2) earned a 3-2 win over the Alaska Aces (12-4-3) in front of 4,779 fans on Teddy Bear Toss Night at CenturyLink Arena. The Steelheads moved into sole possession of first place in the Mountain Division with their second straight win beyond regulation.

Komm has now stopped all 11 shooters he's faced in the shootout this season, making Caleb Herbert's goal against Aces goalie Lukas Hafner in the first round hold up as the winner. With the Aces leading 1-0 on a first period goal from defenseman Steven Tarasuk, the Steelheads opened the second period with a power play and converted quickly. Kellan Lain went to the front of the net and redirected a Charlie Dodero shot past Hafner for his third of the season at 1:02, launching thousands of teddy bears from the stands that were collected and donated to the US Marine Corps' Toys for Tots program.

The Steelheads would grab the lead in the final minute of the period, when Travis Ewanyk collected a rebound off the end boards from a Joe Basaraba shot and lifted it past Hafner for his team-leading eighth goal of the season and a 2-1 lead with just nine seconds left. Ewanyk now has six goals and 11 points in the last 11 games.

Alaska tied the game midway through the third period on a power play goal by Tyler Ruegsegger. It was only the third power play goal the Steelheads had surrendered in 34 short-handed situations in the last ten games.

In overtime, Branden Komm made several saves to preserve the tie. That included a glove save on a high-slot shot from Tim Coffman with players driving to the net. The Steelheads had the final opportunity of overtime, with Anthony Luciani whistling a puck wide of the post at the final buzzer.

Idaho is 4-0 in shootouts this season, and improved to 9-3-1 on home ice. The Steelheads are also now 12-2-2 in games played on Friday and Saturday nights, and an impressive 4-5-2 in games in which they surrender the first goal.

The Steelheads head out on the road for a three-game series against the Colorado Eagles at Budweiser Event Center. The Steelheads have won both meetings this season with Colorado, both in Loveland. The series begins Wednesday night, with puck-drop scheduled for 7:05pm MT. The game is available on 1350AM KTIK and ECHLTV.

PLAY OF THE GAME: Branden Komm is showing tremendous confidence in shootouts, now winning all three he's been a part of this season but also in not allowing a goal in 11 attempts. Komm shut down league-leading goal scorer Peter Sivak, NHL veteran Tim Wallace, and Daniel Moynihan, in the midst of an eight-game points streak. Komm challenged all three shooters and was able to make Caleb Herbert's opening-round goal hold up as the winner. Komm has earned three of his four wins this season via the breakaway competition.
