Alaska Aces News Release

Alaska manages just 12 shots over first 40 minutes in 5-2 loss       BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Connor James scored twice to go along with an assist as Bakersfield cruised past Alaska 5-2 in front of 3,217 Tuesday night at Centennial Garden.       Bakersfield controlled much of the first period, finally breaking through on a power play at the 13:53 mark, when Dennis Shiryaev slammed a rebound past Alaska starter Peter Aubry.  With 1:48 left in the period, Aubry had no chance when Scott Hofstrand set up Condor captain Paul Rosebush from point blank range, giving Bakersfield a 2-0 bulge after the opening 20 minutes.       The Aces converted for only the second time in 33 chances on the power play early in the second period, when Chris Minard picked up his third goal of the year by redirecting Olivier Filion's shot past Bakersfield goalie Randy Petruk at 3:22.  The Condors quickly responded, as Vlad Serov flipped a backhander over Aubry's left shoulder at 4:58 for a 3-1 lead.  Less than two minutes later, Connor James followed up his own shot, scoring on a wraparound, and later extended the gap to 5-1 with a beautiful move around defenseman Mike Clarke and a deke of Aubry at 16:06.        Bakersfield outshot Alaska 23-12 through the first two periods and coasted home in the third, allowing Minard to score his second goal of the night from the left circle with 2:58 remaining.  The Aces, now 2-4 on the season, outshot the Condors 13-11 over the final 20 minutes but never mounted a serious threat in losing their second straight game.  Alaska's Joe Talbot drew a five-minute major for elbowing and a game misconduct in the third period while Mike Lee and Filion each won their respective bouts handily.       The Aces will take the four-hour bus ride down to San Diego for tomorrow night's game at 6:05 p.m. ADT, with two broadcast outlets available; live radio coverage on AM 750 KFQD as well as a video webcast at www.alaskaaces.com, courtesy of B2 Networks.  Alaska took two of three from the Gulls (2-2-1) last weekend at Sullivan Arena.
