Aces Face Idaho Steelheads in Western Conference Semifinals

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The first seeded Alaska Aces announced they are scheduled to face the fourth seeded Idaho Steelheads in the Western Conference Semifinals (second round) of the Kelly Cup Playoffs with Game 1 on Thursday, May 1 at Sullivan Arena, opening a best-of-seven series.

The series, following a "2-3-2" format, is the fifth all-time matchup between the teams and the first since the 2011 Conference Semifinals, when the Aces defeated Idaho, 4-0 en route to their second Kelly Cup championship. The Aces, who entered the ECHL with Idaho in 2003-04 after previously competing in the West Coast Hockey League, are 10-7 lifetime in the Kelly Cup Playoffs against the Steelheads.

GAME 3 - at Idaho: Monday, May 5 (CenturyLink Arena) - 5:10 p.m.

GAME 4 - at Idaho: Wednesday, May 7 (CenturyLink Arena) - 5:10 p.m.

This season, the Aces went 6-3-3 in the head-to-head series with Idaho with seven of the final eight matchups decided by one goal. Nick Mazzolini led the Aces with 13 points in 12 games against Idaho, while Brett Robinson paced the Steelheads in the series with 15 points in 11 games.

The Aces defeated the Las Vegas Wranglers, 4-0 in the Western Conference Quarterfinals to advance to the second round of the Kelly Cup Playoffs for the 10th time in 11 seasons. The Aces have won two Kelly Cup championships, advanced to the Finals three time and have captured five Brabham Cup titles (best regular season record).

Idaho defeated Colorado, 4-2 in the opening round and clinched the series Monday night, 3-2 with a victory at 17:18 of the fourth overtime which was the longest game in ECHL history.
