Salt Lake Bees News Release

SALT LAKE CITY - The Reno Aces completed a four-game sweep by downing the Bees 6-5 on Friday night in front of 10,214 fans at Smith's Ballpark.

Salt Lake starter Patrick Sandoval (3-4) was tagged with the loss as he went three and one-thirds and allowed three earned runs on five hits while striking out four batters. Sandoval gave up one run in the second frame and two runs in the third, but the Bees offense was able to plate two in the bottom of the third to cut the lead to 3-2. Greg Mahle relieved Sandoval in the fourth inning and pitched three innings of work, surrendering three runs on seven hits in his outing. Salt Lake chipped away at the lead and tallied one run in the bottom of the seventh to make it a 6-3 game. In the final two innings, the Bees pitching staff held the Aces bats scoreless but the offense could not complete the comeback. The Bees threatened to score in the 8th but Jared Walsh was thrown out at home on a Jarrett Parker double and in the ninth the Bees scored a pair of runs on a passed ball and Taylor Ward RBI single, but Ward was left stranded at first base.

The Bees suffered their first series sweep since of the season with the loss tonight. It marks the first time being swept at home since playing El Paso in a five-game series from July 4-8, 2018. Reno and Salt Lake now have a series sweep against each other this season as Salt Lake took four games at Reno from May 11-14.

The Bees travel to Tacoma on Saturday to begin a five-game series with the Tacoma Rainiers. Salt Lake returns to Smith's Ballpark for Independence Weekend with home games July 4-7 with fireworks following the game on Thursday, Friday and Saturday night.
