PAPILLION (June 5, 2019) - Storm Chasers opener Josh Staumont hurled 2 shutout innings and Triple-A All-Star Bubba Starling got the chasers on the board early with a 3 run, bases loaded, double in the top of the first which was enough to hold off Round Rock 3-2 Saturday night.
Staumont (2.0 IP, 1 H, BB, 3 K) who now sports 63 strikeouts in just 43 innings, is back on track. Jake Kalish (6.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R, ER, 3 K, 1 HR) was able to bridge the opener to closer Richard Lovelady (1.0 IP, H) who earns his 4th save on the year. Round Rock's starter Ryan Hartman (7.0 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 5 K) suffered the defeat.
Bubba (2-4, 2 H, 3 RBI) put the Storm Chasers ahead in the opening frame with his bases loaded double to left to score Jecksson Flores (0-3, R, BB), Erick Mejia (1-3, R, H, BB), and Jorge Bonifacio (0-3, R, BB). That is all the scoring the Chasers would need.
Alex De Goti (1-3, H, RBI) hit a sac fly in the bottom of the 3rd to score Garrett Stubbs (1-3, R, H). And Jack Mayfield (1-4, R, H, RBI, 2 SO) homers an inning later, his eleventh on the year, to cut the deficit to one.
The two teams are set to play 4 more games until the Chasers return home for Independence Day. Tomorrow's matchup kicks off at 6:05pm.
Tickets for that game and all remaining Storm Chasers home contests can be purchased online at www.omahastormchasers.com, or by calling the Werner Park Ticket Office from noon until 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday at (402) 738-5100.
