Aces Come up Big Late in 4-2 Win in Utah

Wes Goldie broke a tie score with 1:19 to play, scoring in his third straight game, and leading the Alaska Aces over the Utah Grizzlies 4-2 from the Maverik Center on Friday night. The Aces improved their league-best point streak to six games, and their league-best record to 13-4-1. Alaska earned points for the ninth time in the last ten games. The Aces stay in Utah, continuing their road trip on Saturday night. They return to the Sullivan Arena on December 7th. The teams traded early goals to start the game. Alaska's Chris Bruton scored on the Aces first shot 2:02 into the hockey game. The Aces lead was short lived however, as Bryan Cameron stepped over the blue line and blistered a slapshot past Adam Courchaine and into the top left corner of the net at 3:46. Alaska outshot Utah 13-6 in the period, and the teams remained tied 1-1 heading into the intermission break.
The clubs remained level through the second period as the physical play elevated. Utah outshot Alaska 15-10 in the period, and the score stayed tied 1-1 heading into the third period.
The Grizzlies took their first lead at 2:52 of the third period when Matt Reber scored to make it 2-1 Utah. However, it was another quick response, as Dan Kissel scored his 11th goal of the year on a power play at 4:32 to snap a drought of 23 straight scoreless power plays. With time winding down, Goldie scored from just outside the crease to give the Aces a 3-2 lead. Brian Swanson added an empty net goal to finish the scoring.
Adam Courchaine (2-1-1) earned the win, making 32 saves on 34 shots, and Andrew Engelage (8-6) made 26 saves on 29 shots, suffering the loss. The Aces power play went 1-3, while the Grizzlies went 0-4. Alaska was outshot by Utah 34-30 in the game.
