Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Mike Scott and Alex Leavitt each had three points as Alaska scored four power play goals in the first period and cruised to a 6-1 win over Phoenix before 4,614 Friday night at Sullivan Arena.

Three days after going 0-for-8 on the power play in a 7-1 loss at Las Vegas, the Aces erupted for six power play goals in 11 opportunities against the Roadrunners, becoming the first ECHL team to score six in one game since Johnstown in March of 2004. The league record is seven, accomplished by three teams, most recently in December of 2002.

Olivier Filion opened the scoring just 1:24 into the game with a wrist shot from the top of the left circle that sailed just underneath the crossbar for this 10th of the year. Scott broke the game open by scoring twice in two minutes, the second goal coming in a five-on-three situation at 14:44, giving him 21 on the season. Phoenix continued its parade to the penalty box, and with the Aces enjoying another two-man advantage, Alex Leavitt poked in a pass from Ryan Gaucher for his 14th goal of the year at 16:04 and a commanding 4-0 lead at the end of the first period.

Roadrunners goalie Mike Mole was replaced for the second period by Ryan Cyr, who stopped all 10 shots he faced in a scoreless second period but was beaten by a tip-in off the stick of Joe Talbot that extended Alaska's bulge to 5-0 at 4:37 of the third. Justin Quenneville broke up Chris Beckford-Tseu's shutout bid three minutes later to put Phoenix on the board. Beckford-Tseu, who had not seen any game action since beating Stockton 5-2 January 20, stopped 20 of 21 shots to improve his personal record to 14-1-2. Peter Metcalf whistled home a one-timer with 8:12 remaining to account for the final margin.

The Aces (37-7-3) out-shot the Roadrunners 43-21 in extending their West Division lead to five points over idle Las Vegas, who plays at Utah tomorrow night. Alaska and Phoenix (16-25-3), who saw its winning streak snapped at five games, will meet again tomorrow at 7:15 p.m., and for the final time this season Sunday when KeyBank presents "Skate with the Aces," with the face-off scheduled for 5:05 p.m. All Alaska Aces games are broadcast live on KFQD AM 750 and at www.alaskaaces.com. In addition, all home games and selected road contests will be available on a pay-per-view basis on the internet, courtesy of B2 Networks.
