Alaska Aces News Release

The Alaska Aces fell behind early, and were never able to catch up in a 5-2 loss to the Las Vegas Wranglers at the Orleans Arena on Sunday afternoon. The Aces fell to 21-13-2 on the year, and are in the midst of a season-long, four-game losing skid. The Aces will have a day off on Monday, and remain in Las Vegas to conclude their five-game road trip on Tuesday night against the Wranglers. Fans can visit the Aces at their Facebook page for more information, or call the Aces at 907.258.ACES.

The Aces fell into a hole early in the hockey game, allowing two goals in the first three and a half minutes. Ned Lukacevic scored from the left circle 1:19 into the hockey game, and Jonathon Milhouse scored at 3:32 to make it 2-0. The score remained through the first period.

In the second period the Wranglers struck twice again early in the frame. Colin Long finished off his own rebound to make it 3-0 at 2:44. Then on an Aces power play, goaltender Adam Courchaine turned the puck over leading to a Blair Riley goal at 5:56. Courchaine was pulled for Gerald Coleman following the goal. The Aces though they had scored their first when Wes Goldie scored at 11:36, but the goal was disallowed because the net was dislodged. The Aces eventually scored on an odd-man rush when Jerad Stewart's shot from the right circle caromed into the net to make it 4-1. The Aces totaled 21 shots in the second period, but the gap remained at three through the end of the frame.

The Wranglers went back up by four when Greg Collins scored at 5:35 of the third period. Steve Ward scored on a slap shot from the blue line later in the period, but that's as close as the Aces could get, eventually falling by three goals for the second straight night.

Adam Courchaine (5-4-1) made 5 saves on 9 shots, taking the loss. Gerald Coleman made 14 saves on 15 shots and did not figure into the decision. Joe Fallon (11-7-1) earned the win, making 31 saves on 33 shots. The Aces power play went 0-5, while the Wranglers went 0-4. The Aces outshot the Wranglers 33-24 in the game.

The Aces conclude their five-game road trip on Tuesday with a rematch with the Las Vegas Wranglers. The game can be heard back in Anchorage on NewsTalk 750AM KFQD, beginning at 5:50pm AKST. The Aces will return home to host the Victoria Salmon Kings on Friday and Saturday, January 21st and 22nd.
