
Stingrays Fall to Wings 3-1

North Charleston, SC -The South Carolina Stingrays (21-16-1-1) grabbed an early lead, but could not hold on as the Kalamazoo Wings (16-15-2-2) skated away with a 3-1 victory in front of 3,403 at the North Charleston Coliseum Sunday evening.
Stingrays forward Tommy Goebel broke open the scoring at 4:33 of the first period firing a wrist shot under the pads of Wings goaltender Ryan Nie from the top of the right-wing circle. Forwards Samson Mahbod and Rob Ricci assisted on Goebel's eighth goal of the season.
Wings forward Sam Ftorek tied the contest at 8:42 of the opening frame from winger Aaron Clarke and defenseman A.J. Thelen. Forward Andrew Fournier provided the game-winning marker at 11:36 from forwards Trent Daavettila and Darryl Lloyd. Moments later, Fournier netted his second of the night on the power play at 14:51 from Clarke and defenseman Ryan McGinnis to complete the game scoring.
Nie shut the door the rest of the way and finished the night stopping 28 of 29 Stingrays shots for his 12 win of the season. Stingrays netminder Jared DeMichiel suffered the loss stopping 24 of 27 Wings chances. The Wings ended the contest 1-for-6 on the power play while the Stingrays went 0-for-6.
