
AC Nips Checkers 3-2 in a Shootout

(Charlotte, NC - Wednesday, October 29, 2003) - The Checkers battled the undefeated Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies tooth and nail Wednesday night but had to settle for a 3-2 shootout loss at Cricket Arena. The Checkers and Bullies were tied 2-2 through regulation and the five-minute, sudden-death overtime session, sending the game to a shootout for the second consecutive game for Charlotte. Bullies goalie Scott Stirling stopped all five Checkers attempts in the shootout, while Charlotte netminder, David St. Germain, gave up only one to Atlantic City's Preston Mizzi one for the difference. Doug Christiansen and Dusty Jamieson scored in regulation for the Checkers while Luke Curtin and Jim Leger tallied for Atlantic City. !
"It was a very entertaining hockey game," quoted Checkers Head Coach, Don MacAdam. "Atlantic City is a really good skating team and I was pleased with our effort. I thought Benoit Dusablon had a good game, considering it was his first game action since being injured last season."
Newcomers Lucas Lawson and Dusablon scored their first points as Checkers this season, with each notching an assist. St. Germain was strong in net for the second consecutive game for Charlotte with 38 saves. The Checkers picked up a point in the shootout loss and stand at 2-1-1 for five points, while the Bullies remain perfect at 6-0-0 for 12 points. Charlotte closes out a brief, two-game homestand Friday night when the Trenton Titans will come to Cricket Arena f! or a 7:30 p.m. faceoff.
