Canucks Recall Obsut

The Vancouver Canucks today announced they have recalled defenceman Jaroslav Obsut (YAHR-ohslahv OHB-suht) from the Manitoba Moose.

Obsut is tied for third in Moose scoring with three goals and three assists for six points in 10 games. That ranks him fourth in league scoring amongst defencemen. His two power play goals are also tied for tops in the league among blueliners with teammate Kirill Koltsov. He has also accumulated 32 PIM which is third-most on the team this season.

The 27-year old was named co-winner of the team's season-ending community service award in 2002-03. Last year, he played in 60 games with the Moose scoring six goals and 13 assists to go along with 59 PIM. He appeared in all 14 playoff games, recording four assists.

The native of Presov, Slovakia has played in seven NHL games in his career with the St. Louis Blues and Colorado Avalanche, recording two penalty minutes. In his career with the Moose, which includes a short stint in 1998-99, he has nine goals and 16 assists for 25 points and 92 penalty minutes in 72 games played. In his American Hockey League career, he has 23 goals and 61 assists for 84 points and 181 penalty minutes in 217 games played. The last NHL action he saw was in 2001-02 with Colorado.

Obsut was signed by Vancouver as a free agent on July 10, 2002. He was originally drafted by the Winnipeg Jets, 188th overall in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft.
