Abreu Is the Player of the Week

Kinston, NC - K-Tribe fan favorite, Abner Abreu has been named the league's top offensive player from July 4th through the 10th. Abreu went nine for 19 over the span with four home runs, two doubles, two triples, four rbi's, seven runs and two stolen bases through six games.

In his second year in Kinston, Abreu is batting .227 with eight home runs and 18 stolen bases. In July, Kinston's starting right fielder has heated up, posting a .346 mark with eight extra base hits.

Abreu signed with Cleveland as an undrafted free agent in 2006. In the Dominican Summer League in 2007 he collected 24 extra base hits, and in 2008 led the league in home runs (11), doubles (16), total bases (107) and slugging percentage (.538). Last season in Kinston, Abreu hit .252 with 21 doubles, six triples and four home runs. Abreu is the first Kinston player honored with the award in 2011.

After an off day Tuesday, Kinston starts a four game series at Potomac Wednesday. The K-Tribe returns home to Historic Grainger Stadium starting this Sunday for a seven game homestand!
