Winston-Salem Dash News Release

WINSTON-SALEM, NC (JULY 11, 2011) - The Carolina League announced Monday that Winston-Salem Dash LHP Matt Wickswat was named "Pitcher of the Week" for the week of July 4 - 10. He is the first Dash pitcher to be honored with the award, and second player to be given a Carolina League weekly award.

Wickswat made one start during the week on July 8 against Myrtle Beach and picked up his first win of the season. In seven innings he did not allow a run, gave up two hits, and struck out five. That start was only his second of the season after beginning the year in the bullpen.

The Bellevue, WA native joined the Dash on April 27 from extended spring training where he was recovering from an intercostal muscle injury. He began the year in the bullpen and had a 2.45 ERA in 18.2 innings. He walked seven and struck out 22. Wickswat is in his second stint with the Dash in 2011. He was called up to AA Birmingham on May 30 and threw 6.1 scoreless innings for the Barons before rejoining Winston-Salem.

Wickswat is the first Winston-Salem Dash pitcher honored as "Pitcher of the Week" since Terry Doyle in June of 2010. He is the second Dash player chosen for the Carolina League weekly honor this season. Andy Wilkins was named "Player of the Week" for the week of May 23 - 29.

Winston-Salem finishes up a three-game series with Salem on Monday at 7:05 p.m. After an off-day, Winston heads to Lynchburg to begin a four-game series on Wednesday. The Dash return to BB&T Ballpark on July 22 to start a seven-game home stand against Potomac and Kinston.

The Winston-Salem Dash are the Class-A Advanced minor league affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. To purchase tickets and for more information, please call 336-714-2287 or visit www.wsdash.com .
