SALEM, VA (JULY 11, 2011) - Salem jumped on Winston-Salem early and often in Monday night's series finale at LewisGale Field and took home a 9-4 win and a series sweep. In the three-game series, the Red Sox outscored the Dash 26-9 and out-hit Winston 38-16.

The Red Sox (10-8, 41-46) started the scoring parade early again in the series finale. In the second inning, Bryce Brentz doubled to start the frame against Dash starter Joe Serafin. Brentz came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Miles Head. Mark Wagner followed Head by hitting a home run to left field.

Winston-Salem (8-10, 40-48) drew closer in the fourth. Jared Mitchell walked with one out and moved to third on an errant pickoff attempt by Ryan Pressly. Andy Wilkins drove home Mitchell with a sac fly to center.

The Red Sox responded in the bottom of the inning when the first three hitters reached safely. Jorge Padron singled, Brentz walked, and Dan Butler singled to load the bases. After Head struck out, Wagner hit a sac fly to score Padron. Alex Valdez followed with a single to score Brentz, and Butler scored on the same play because of a fielding error by Kyle Colligan.

Salem scored again in the sixth with three more runs. Butler walked and moved to third when Head singled. Wagner then doubled in Butler, putting runners at second and third. Serafin retired the next two batters and was pulled for reliever J.R. Ballinger. Shannon Wilkerson greeted the Winston reliever with a two-run single to put Salem up 8-1.

The Dash put up two more in the seventh when Ian Gac hit a massive home run to straightaway center field. It was Gac's 21st home run of the season. With one out, Mike Blanke singled and later scored on a Luis Sierra single.

Again the Sox responded by picking up a run in the bottom of the inning. Padron led off with a double and scored on Butler's single. Later in the inning, Wagner lined a pitch off Ballinger's ankle, causing Ballinger to leave the game with an injury. Orlando Santos relieved him and set down the rest of the Sox to end the game.

Mitchell and Wilkins combined for one more run for Winston in the eighth inning. Mitchell singled, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and scored on Wilkins' single to leave the final score at 9-4.

Pressly (5-8) picked up the win in his fourth straight quality start for the Red Sox. He gave up three runs (two earned) in 6.1 innings. Serafin (1-7) was hit with the loss after allowing eight runs (seven earned) on ten hits in 5.2 innings.

After an off-day on Tuesday, Winston-Salem heads to Lynchburg for a four-game series starting on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. LHP Santos Rodriguez (2-2, 3.67) starts for the Dash against LHP Chris Masters (5-4, 3.61). Fans can catch all the action on www.wsdash.com starting at 6:45.
