Aberdeen IronBirds News Release

Tonight's Game

The Aberdeen IronBirds look to snap a five-game losing streak tonight as they take on the Connecticut Tigers (Class-A Short-Season affiliate of the Detroit Tigers). Aberdeen lost their fifth straight yesterday by a final score of 5-1. A tie game in the bottom of the seventh, Aberdeen made three errors and the Tigers took advantage, scoring four runs to take a lead they would never relinquish. Tonight, the IronBirds will have right-hander Tyler Wilson on the hill. Wilson has not surrendered more than one run in each of his first three starts. He'll go up against fellow right-hander Luis Angel Sanz.

Eliminated

With yesterday's loss to the Tigers, the IronBirds were officially eliminated from playoff contention. With just 15 games to play, Aberdeen trails the Williamsport Crosscutters by 16 games in the Wild Card Standings. The IronBirds were eliminated from the McNamara Division on Saturday night.

Losing Streak

This is the fourth time this season the IronBirds have had a losing streak of five games or longer. Aberdeen has been outscored 25-10 over the five-game losing streak. In addition to losing five straight, Aberdeen has lost eight of its last nine games.

Touched by an Angel

Angel Cespedes made his first start of the season in yesterday afternoon's loss at the Connecticut Tigers. The right-hander allowed just one unearned run in five innings of work. Cespedes will stay in the rotation. His next scheduled start is Saturday August 27th against the Staten Island Yankees.

Adam's August

Catcher Adam Davis has been the IronBirds' hottest hitter on this six-game road trip. Over the course of the four games, Davis has six hits in 14 at bats. Davis is also five-for-his-last-seven. The 2011 11th-round pick out of Illinois is batting .375 in the month of August.

Home Sweet Home

Following tonight's series finale at Connecticut, the IronBirds will return to Ripken Stadium for a five-game home stand. The IronBirds will play three more against the Tigers before welcoming the Yankees to town for two games. After tonight, the IronBirds will play eight of their next 10 games at home.
