Jamestown Jammers News Release
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Jose Urena silenced the Williamsport bats for six innings, but the Crosscutters struck against the Jamestown bullpen to win Monday night's game, 2-1, at Bowman Field.
Urena, who had struggled in his most recent outings, dominated the Williamsport batters over six innings. He was perfect through four innings before ï¬Ânishing with ï¬Âve strikeouts, three hits allowed, no walks and in line to get the win; however, the Crosscutters scored two in the seventh to drop Jamestown to 30-32.
Jamestown had several opportunities to take an early lead but could not break through until the top of the sixth inning.
Austin Barnes and Brian McConkey had back-to-back singles to start the frame. Then, Jobduan Morales reached on a ï¬Âelder's choice missed catch error by the shortstop to ï¬Âll the bases with one out. The Jammers capitalized on the opportunity as Terrence Dayleg grounded out to plate the only run.
It was a short-lived advantage as Williamsport struck in the seventh inning when Jamestown called on a reliver.
Jacob Esch came in and gave up hits to the ï¬Ârst three batters he faced to allow Williamsport to take the lead. Geancarlo Martinez and Aaron Altherr each had a single before Bob Stumpo drilled a double to right to score both runners.
The Georgia Tech product settled down from there, but it was too late as James Birmingham slammed the door in the eighth and ninth to lock up the win and earn his ï¬Ârst save.
Matt Campbell picked up the win after throwing three innings, surrendering two hits and one unearned run.
For Jamestown, Adams had two hits, while Barnes had a single, scored a run and walked twice.
Altherr sparked Williamsport with two hits, and Stumpo provided the critical two-run double.
Jamestown now heads to State College for three more road games as the 12-game road trip continues.
