Aberdeen IronBirds News Release
Tonight's Match-up
The IronBirds will try to close out this road trip with a win tonight as they take on the Hudson Valley Renegades (Class-A Short-Season affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays). The IronBirds are 0-4 so far on the road trip and winless on the road. Aberdeen fell to Hudson Valley Saturday night by a final score of 8-0. Renegades pitchers Parker Markel and Mickey Jannis combined to two-hit the IronBirds. It's the second time this season Aberdeen has been held scoreless. Tonight, the IronBirds will have the right-hander Jake Cowan on the hill. Cowan is currently leading the starting staff in ERA. He'll go up against right-hander Andrew Leary.
New Month, Same Results
The IronBirds have dropped the first two games in July. In those two contests the club has been outscored 15-4. The team is batting just .159 in the month, and the team's ERA 6.75.
Bullpen Troubles
The IronBirds currently have a team ERA of 4.45, which is good for second-worst in the New York-Penn League. The bullpen has really struggled, posting a 5.05 ERA. The IronBirds starting pitchers have an ERA of 3.78.
Free Falling
Another IronBirds loss and Staten Island Yankees win means the IronBirds have continued to fall in the McNamara Division standings. They are now 11.5 games behind the Yankees with 60 games to play. Aberdeen is eight games back in the wild card chase. They trail the Brooklyn Cyclones, Jamestown Jammers and Mahoning Valley Scrappers, who are in a three-way tie for first.
Runners in Scoring Position
In addition to being tied for last in the league in batting average (.214) the IronBirds are currently last in the league in runs scored (43). Part of the reason for the runs-drought is because Aberdeen hasn't been able to hit with runners in scoring position. The club is batting just .176 when a runner is on second and/or third base.
