Tigers Walk-off on Azcona Homer

NORWICH, CT - The Connecticut Tigers walked off with the victory on Sunday afternoon on a Javier Azcona solo shot over the left field wall in the bottom of the ninth inning to defeat the Lowell Spinners 3-2.

The Spinners jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a Tim Roberson sacrifice fly ball to score Jason Thompson.

Connecticut would strike back with two runs of their own in the third inning. After a one-out triple by Azcona, the Tigers shortstop came into score the tying run on a P.J. Polk groundout. Later in the frame Jason King drove in Chad Wright to help give Connecticut a 2-1 lead, picking up his sixth RBI in his last seven games.

The Spinners would charge back n the seventh inning. After a five-RBI night in last night's win for Lowell, Travis Shaw drove in Jose Garcia with a double to knot the game at 2-2, before the heroics from Azcona.

Clemente Mendoza got the win out of the bullpen working two perfect innings, while Swen Huijer suffered the loss after giving up the Azcona long ball.

The Tigers will now head to Lowell to begin a five-game road trip, starting with a two-game set against the Spinners. First pitch for tomorrow night is set for 7:05 PM.
