St. Paul Saints News Release

A Sooner thrives against the competition in Texas and that's exactly what Ole Sheldon did on Wednesday night. The former Oklahoma Sooner made QuikTrip Park his personal launching pad going deep twice as the St. Paul Saints beat up the Grand Prairie AirHogs 12-2.

Sheldon has his hand in nearly all the offensive production, but in the first he was hit instead of getting a hit. Josh Alley led off the game with a walk and with one out Sheldon was hit by a pitch. With two outs Edgard Clemente roped a two-run double giving the Saints a 2-0 lead.

The AirHogs tied it in the second when Michael Holliman and Robert Perry led off with back-to-back singles. Daniel Berg laid down a sacrifice bunt, but reached when he knocked the ball out of Brandon Carter's glove, allowing Holliman to score. Ben Petralli added a sacrifice fly to tie the game at two.

From there it was all Saints. In the fifth Carter led off with a double and Sheldon drilled a two-run shot to left, his 13th of the season, giving the Saints a 4-2 lead.

In the sixth Sheldon would come calling again. Josh Petersen reached on an infield single and stole second. Steve Butler singled to right scoring Petersen and Butler went all the way to third on the throw to the plate and then on the throwing error from the right fielder Chris Brown. With two outs Carter walked and then Sheldon hit his second homer of the night, a three-run shot just insider the left field pole, his 14th of the season, making it 8-2.

The Saints scored two in the seventh, this time without the help of Sheldon, but instead from former AirHog Chad Gabriel. Clemente led off with a double and with one out Gabriel hit his first homer of the season, a two-run homer down the left field line, giving the Saints a 10-2 lead.

The Saints and Sheldon finished the scoring in the eighth when Carter doubled and Sheldon doubled him home. Sheldon finished the night 3-3 with two homers, a career tying high six RBI and a franchise tying high four runs scored. Sheldon would come around to score on a double from Gerard Haran.

Saints starter Kyle Foster was not to be overshadowed going 7.0 innings allowing two unearned runs on seven hits while walking one and striking out eight as he got his first win of the season.

Clemente finished the night 3-4 with two doubles, two RBI and a run scored while Carter was 2-5 with two doubles and three runs scored. The Saints have now scored 22 runs and have 28 hits in their two games against the AirHogs.

The Saints go for the three game sweep on Thursday night at QuickTrip Park at 7:05 p.m. The Saints send RHP Zach Peterson (3-3, 2.68) to the mound against AirHogs RHP Greg Krause (2-4, 4.95). The game can be heard on Relevant Radio 1330.
