
Pheasants Fall in Sioux City

SIOUX CITY, Iowa. - The Sioux Falls Pheasants gave up an early 7-0 lead on Wednesday night and could not catch up in a 14-4 loss to the Sioux City Explorers.
The Pheasants fell to 7-2 in the second half of the season and 39-18 overall.
The Explorers centerfielder T.J. Bohn drove in the first of seven runs in the first inning with a single. Sioux City tallied six hits in the frame and sent 11 batters to the plate. Tim Alberts hit a two-run home run also, his first as an Explorer. Ray Serrano drove in a team-high four runs on three hits.
Explorers starter Ty Marotz (4-2) allowed 10 hits but held the Pheasants to four runs for the victory. He tossed seven innings and did not walk a man while striking out two.
Ryan Rodriguez (6-3) was roughed up by the Explorers in 5 2/3 innings. He allowed a season-high 11 runs on 15 hits. He walked four and struck out two.
Beau Torbert was bright spot for the Pheasants. He belted his 13th home run of the year, a solo shot in the fourth inning. He finished 3-for-4 with two RBI. The home run was Torbert's 44th as Sioux Falls player, moving him one shy of Charles Peterson's mark for second all-time in franchise history.
Gus Milner also whacked his fourth home run of the season. After struggling early in the season, Milner has lifted his average to .271 with 21 RBI.
The Pheasants continue the three-game series with Sioux City, their I-29 rivals, at 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday, July 14, in Sioux City. The game will be broadcast on Sioux Falls Sports Radio 1230-AM KWSN and www.kwsn.com.
