Charlotte Knights News Release
FORT MILL, S.C. - March 27, 2007 - Thousands of men and women of the United States Armed Services have answered the call of duty and are serving their country in Iraq. Now, it's the Charlotte Knights turn to help one Marine and his colleague's looking to start a baseball league in Iraq.
Corporal Frank King of Huntersville, serving with the 1st Battalion 6th Marine Supply in Iraq, sent a letter to his friend, Kim Johnson, requesting some sports equipment to him and his unit. Kim then contacted the Knights to see how we could help. The Knights have responded by donating more than $10,000 worth of baseball supplies and equipment. The items include: team pants, new/used baseballs, Knights hats, t-shirts, bats and autographed baseballs. The Knights will be packing the supplies this Wednesday at 10 a.m.
"This is our way of saying 'thank you' to the servicemen and women stationed in Iraq," says Dan Rajkowski, VP/GM of the Charlotte Knights. "Sending them these items will help give them an outlet for recreation in their free time and an opportunity to have a little taste of 'America's Pastime' as we all prepare for the opening of the 2007 baseball season."
Not only have the Knights donated supplies, but staff members have donated gloves, bats and even DVD movies for the troops.
The Charlotte Knights are the Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox and open the 2007 season on April 5 against the Pawtucket Red Sox. For ticket or event information, please contact the Knights front office at (704) 357-8071 or (803) 548-8050 or visit our website at www.charlotteknights.com for more information.
