Midland RockHounds News Release

On the Fourth of July at Frisco, Kyle McCann broke out of an 0-for-18 slump with a two-hit game, including a bunt single that started the game-winning rally. He picked up where he left off Tuesday in Corpus Christi ... but not with a bunt. McCann's first-inning grand slam home run was the key swing of the bat as the RockHounds claimed a 7-5 win in the opener of a six-game series at Whataburger Field.

The Hooks answered with a big swing of their own when Pedro Leon tied the game at 4-4 on a three-run homer in the last of the third.

Nick Allen's leadoff walk in the fourth was followed by a Logan Davidson double and Devin Foyle's sacrifice fly, giving the 'Hounds the lead for good at 5-4.

Jhonny Santos led off the sixth with a solo home run and back-to back singles from Foyle and Jeremy Eierman to open the seventh led to the 'Hounds' final run of the game, which scored on a wild pitch.

Montana DuRapau pitched three scoreless innings in relief to claim the win. The former Major Leaguer (14 games with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2019) faced 10 batters and retired nine, allowing only Scott Manea's leadoff single in the sixth.

Jack Weisenburger allowed one run in 1â..." innings to earn his first save at the Double-A level.

Allen (see "Kibbles & Bits," below) reached base three times and Davidson, Eierman and Chase Calabuig each had two hits to the lead the RockHounds. Calabuig's 2-for-4 night at the plate extended his current hit streak to nine games (10-29, .345).

The 'Hounds scored five of their seven runs against Corpus Christi starter Jimmy Enderby, who had allowed just one run in 11 innings (0.82 ERA) in his first two starts with the Hooks.

Kibbles & Bits

Nick Allen extended his on-base streak to 20 games (with hits in 18-of-the-20) and is hitting .349 in the streak. The US Olympic Team member has a .356 average over his last 36 games and is hitting .322 for the season, which puts him second overall in the Double-A Central.
