\'Birds Remain in First Place at 6-3

Salisbury, MD - The Hagerstown Suns (4-5) hit three home runs and sprinted past the Delmarva Shorebirds (6-3) for a 15-2 win. The Shorebirds recorded a season low four hits and scored a season low two runs.

Hagerstown jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the third inning. J.P. Ramirez hit a one out double. Two batters later, Brett Newsome singled home Ramirez to put Hagerstown on the board 1-0.

The Suns built a sizable lead in the third. Jeffrey Kobernus led off with a single. Francisco Soriano followed with a triple to plate Kobernus and lift the Suns to a 2-0 lead. Two more runs came across in the frame including a run scoring double by Ramirez.

Hagerstown starter Jack McGeary stifled the Shorebirds in six innings. He allowed just four hits and two runs to earn his first win in the South Atlantic League.

The Shorebirds plated their two runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Gary Helmick was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a single by Justin Dalles. Garabez Rosa then singled to right center to score Helmick. In the sixth, Tyler Kolodny belted his third home run of the season over the left field wall.

The Suns recorded a season high 19 hits. J.P. Ramirez paced the offensive with four hits and four RBIs. Steven Souza hit two home runs and notched five RBIs.

The Shorebirds return to action on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. Tony Butler makes his second start of the season for the ‘Birds.
