Augusta GreenJackets News Release
Augusta, GA - With a crowd of 5,389 hanging on every pitch, the Augusta GreenJackets earned a thrilling, come-from-behind 5-2 win over the Charleston RiverDogs in their home opener.
Trailing 2-1 in the sixth, Tommy Joseph broke out of an 0-23 slump with a one-out double. After Ryan Lollis' walk and with two outs, Nick Liles drove a Michael Solbach offering into right-center to bring home two runs and give the Jackets their first lead of the night. Liles would score on a throwing error on an attempted steal of third base to complete the three-run rally.
The night started out rough for Augusta starter BJ Salsbury. In his first outing since hurling six no-hit innings in Greensboro last Saturday, Salsbury gave up a pair of first inning solo home runs to Kyle Higashioka and Luke Murton to put the Jackets in an early 2-0 hole. Chris Dominguez brought a run home for the Jackets in the bottom of the first with an RBI single to halve the lead before Augusta broke out in the sixth.
Liles knocked in three runs, thanks to an RBI groundout in the eighth, and led an offensive attack that saw multi-hit games from Joseph and Dominguez. Salsbury (2-0) was the benefactor of the sixth-inning fireworks, getting the win after firing seven strong innings and allowing two runs on five hits without a walk. He struck out six RiverDogs.
Solbach (0-1) takes the loss in relief of starter Jose Ramirez, who struck out nine in 5.1 innings of two-run ball. Ramirez allowed five hits and walked two.
Jason Jarvis picked up his third save of the season by striking out the side in the ninth to complete a scoreless 1.1 inning stint. The GreenJackets bullpen yielded just one hit over the final two innings.
Augusta will look for win number eight in 2010 with Zack Wheeler on the mound to face Kelvin Perez in a battle of righties on Saturday. There will be a postgame fireworks display presented by Doctors Hospital, NBC Augusta and the Augusta Chronicle. First pitch will come at 7:05 p.m. with the pregame action beginning at 6:50 p.m. on WRDW-AM 1630, www.greenjacketsbaseball.com and www.wrdwam.com.
Single-game and Season Tickets are currently available by calling the GreenJackets front office at 706-922-WINS while further information can be found online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com.
