
D-Fenders Acquire Speedy Smith

EL SEGUNDO - The Los Angeles D-Fenders have acquired guard Kenneth "Speedy" Smith from the available player pool, it was announced today by General Manager Nick Mazzella. In a related move, the D-Fenders have waived Jamal Branch.
Smith appeared in 140 career games at Louisiana Tech (2011-15), averaging 6.2 points, 6.1 assists, 3.8 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game. The 2015 Conference USA Player of the Year tallied 7.4 assists (5th in the NCAA), 6.4 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.9 steals during his senior season. Smith finished with 267 assists in 2014-15, most in the NCAA. As a junior, Smith averaged an NCAA-leading 7.7 assists per game. Smith was named the C-USA Defensive Player of the Year in 2014, making the All-Defensive Team in both 2014 and 2015. Smith earned first-team All-Conference honors in 2013, 2014 and 2015.
