SANTA CRUZ, CA. - The Oklahoma City Blue (5-14) defeated the Delaware 87ers (12-10) 119-114 on Wednesday at the 2016 NBA Development League Showcase in Santa Cruz, CA.
The Blue received a season-high 26 points from Marquis Teague, who also added nine assists. Oklahoma City Thunder assignee' Josh Huestis finished with a season-high 20 points, and J.P. Tokoto recorded 14 points off the bench. Former Kentucky forward Dakari Johnson notched 18 points, seven rebounds and six assists in the win.
Sean Kilpatrick, third in scoring in the D-League, led Delaware with a game-high 35 points on 12-of-25 shooting from the field (48%). David Laury III posted 17 points in 22 minutes off the bench, part of a combined 50-point effort from the 87ers' bench. Forward Rick Jackson put up a 15-point, 10-rebound double-double, his second of the season.
There were three lead changes and six ties in the first quarter, which saw Oklahoma City end with a 27-24 lead. Kilpatrick led all scorers with nine points in the opening period, while Tomislav Zubcic and Dakari Johnson each scored six points to start the game for the Blue.
The 87ers opened the second quarter with a 7-0 run and maintained a 59-56 lead going into halftime. Kilpatrick didn't miss a shot in the second quarter for Delaware on his way to 11 points in the period. The Blue hit 13-of-21 shots from the field (62%) in the second, but were only one-of-five from beyond the arc (20%).
Delaware's bench produced 21 of the team's 29 points scored in the third quarter, as the 87ers took an 88-76 lead into the final stanza. Delaware out-rebounded the Blue 12-7 in the third.
The fourth quarter belonged to Oklahoma City, who shot 14-of-21 from the field (67%) and put up 43 points in the final period, led by 14 from Huestis.
Oklahoma City finished the game shooting 44-of-83 from the floor (53%) in the victory.
Despite shooting 26-of-31 from the free throw line (84%) and out-rebounding the Blue 52-37, Delaware's 26-point fourth quarter ultimately wasn't enough to keep pace with Oklahoma City.
The Blue will close out their D-League Showcase on Friday, Jan. 8 at 1:00 p.m. ET against the Grand Rapids Drive. The 87ers final Showcase game is on Thursday, Jan. 7 at 10:30 p.m. ET against the Texas Legends. Both games can be seen live on NBA TV.
