Legends top Crawdads 3-0

April 23, 2009 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Lexington Legends News Release

Phil Disher hit a two-run homer in the first inning, and starter Brad Dydalewicz (2-0) (Dy-DAL-a-wits) went seven shutout innings to get his second win as the Lexington Legends defeated the Hickory Crawdads 3-0 Thursday night. Patrick Urckfitz and Daniel Meszaros each worked an inning in relief, with Meszaros picking up his sixth save in as many opportunities by setting Hickory down in order in the ninth.

Disher's homer, his second in two days, also scored Jay Austin, who had doubled to lead off the game. The homer came off Hickory starter and loser Carlos Pimentel (0-1), who pitched well otherwise, going six innings and allowing four hits.

The Legends' third run came in the eighth inning. Ricardo Bonfante reached on a leadoff walk and moved to third on a single by Austin, who advanced to second on the throw to third. One out later, Russell Dixon was intentionally walked to load the bases. Disher then hit a high bouncer that went off the glove of pitcher Tyler Tufts for an infield hit, scoring Bonfante.

Dydalewicz worked out of a jam in the fourth inning. With a runner at third and one out, he struck out current South Atlantic League Player of the Week Mike Bianucci and Eric Fry, the fourth- and fifth-place hitters in the Hickory lineup.

The Legends have taken two out of three in the series, which concludes Friday night with a 7:00 start. Right-hander Robert Bono (2-0), who hasn't allowed a run in ten innings this season, will start for Lexington. Left-hander Richard Bleier (1-0, 0.75 ERA) will go for Hickory.
