Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

KANNAPOLIS, NC - The Intimidators last gasp rally fell just short on Thursday night at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium, as the Greenville Drive held on for a 2-1 win.

Kannapolis had the tying run in scoring position with one out, but Jordan Cheathum grounded into a game-ending double play. The Intimidators offense managed just four hits against a trio of Greenville hurlers.

Lost in the poor offensive effort was a terrific start from Dexter Carter. Carter, who was forced out of his last start with an injured ankle, was in fine form on Thursday. The right-hander gave up one run on four hits in six innings. He struck out a season-high eight batters, but did not play a part in the decision.

Instead, reliever Charlis Burdie (0-1) was left on the hook for the loss after giving up the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth. Anthony Rizzo singled to the opposite field to score Ryan Dent to give Greenville a lead they would not relinquish.

The Intimidators (10-5) only run came in he fifth inning against reliever Fabian Williamson (1-0). Drew Garcia's RBI-groundout got the job done, but the Intimidators could never get the hit to take control.

Greenville (9-6) starter Yeiper Castillo pitched four scoreless innings to open the game, while Felix Ventura got the final five outs for his second save of the season.
