April 11, 2009 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Round Rock Express News Release
Plenty of fans braved a chilly night at the Dell Diamond Saturday night, but they witnessed a forgettable 6-1 loss by the Express at the hands of the Iowa Cubs.
The Cubs got things rolling in the third inning, scoring two runs on a hit, an error and two walks. But they really blew things open in the fifth inning as pitcher Esmailin Caridad, Sam Fuld and So Taguchi walked to lead off the inning load the bases. After a force out at home, Jake Fox tripled to left-center field to clear the bases. Luis Rivas followed with a double that scored Fox to make it 6-0.
The lone Express run came in the eighth inning when Matt Kata hit into a force out with runners on second and third, and Tommy Manzella cruised home.
The Cubs held onto the lead the rest of the way, despite being outhit by Round Rock 8-7, and committing more errors (3-1).
Manzella led the way for Round Rock, collecting three hits on the night - the only Express player with multiple hits - and scoring the lone run.
The two teams finish the series Sunday with left-hander Josh Muecke taking the mound for the Express against I-Cubs right-hander J.R. Mathes.
Round Rock will then welcome Omaha Monday night for another four game series.
