Raptors 905 (14-13), the NBA G League affiliate of the Toronto Raptors, split the two-game series against the Grand Rapids Gold (8-20) 113-109 Tuesday evening.
Sterling Brown led the 905 with a 20-point, 12-rebound double-double, adding seven assists, a steal, and a block. The Gold were paced by Jack White who secured career highs in points, 28, and rebounds, 18.
Grand Rapids took the reins early in the match, outscoring the Raptors 905 28- 20 in the first quarter. The Gold continued to push the pace, going up by as many as 17 points in the second quarter before the visitors closed the half on a 16-4 run, bringing the game with seven points at the break.
The second half was full of runs for both teams. Raptors 905 came out of the break strong, cutting the Gold lead to three before the home team came back with a 15- 3 run. The 905 fought back closing the third on a 22-11 run and eventually cut the Grand Rapids lead to four entering the final frame. A competitive fourth quarter saw the two teams trading baskets before a jumpshot from Sterling Brown tied the match with 59 seconds remaining. Two back-to-back buckets from the Gold extends the lead to five before a three from Gabe Brown cuts the lead to two with 6.9 seconds remaining. The 905 attempted to close out the game, but a pair of free throws sealed the victory for Grand Rapids.
Gabe Brown paced the 905 with his 24 points, three rebounds, and a steal off the bench for the 905. The Gold saw complementary scoring from Grant Golden who added 16 points and 11 rebounds in the victory.
The 905 return home to host the Lakeland Magic in a two-game series beginning Thursday, tip-off scheduled for 12:00 pm, while the Gold close out their season on the road, facing the College Park Skyhawks Friday at 7:00 pm.
