Raptors 905 (7-14), the NBA G League affiliate of the Toronto Raptors defeated the Santa Cruz Warriors in overtime 114-109 Friday evening. Javon Freeman-Liberty led the 905 with a game-high 37 points and a career-high 14 rebounds. Donovan Williams paced the Warriors with 27 points and six rebounds.
Santa Cruz got off to a hot start, opening the ball game on an 11-2 run. The 905 fought back before a late Warriors run allowed them to close the first quarter up 34 to 18. The 905 found their rhythm in the second opening the frame on a 10-3 run, and eventually outscoring the home team 27-25 behind a balanced scoring effort.
The Warriors came out of the break strong, opening the half on a 10-2 run, earning their largest lead of the game, 24. However, the 905 quickly responded closing the quarter with 28 points, while holding Santa Cruz to 24. Down 10 in the final frame, the two teams traded baskets back-and-forth before eight straight 905 points brought the ball game within three. The 905 continued their comeback effort, earning their first lead of the game with under three minutes remaining. The two teams traded baskets for the remainder of the game before tying the game up at the end of regulation.
The two teams entered overtime with the newly implemented a Target Score of adding seven points to the tied score for overtime games. The Target Score was set to 114 and the first team to hit or surpass wins. The Warriors won the opening tip of overtime, scoring their first and only basket. Freeman-Liberty scored all seven points for the 905, securing the win in Santa Cruz.
Jontay Porter and Justise Winslow paced the 905 with double-doubles, contributing 17 points, 10 rebounds, six assists, three blocks, and 14 points, 13 rebounds, four assists, and four blocks, respectively. Amida Brimah and Javonte Green contributed 12 points, 13 rebounds, and 14 points, 12 rebounds, respectively.
The two teams meet again tomorrow to close out their season series, tip-off slated for 7:00 p.m.
