Santa Cruz Warriors Fall to Raptors 905 in Overtime, 114-109

SANTA CRUZ, CA - The Santa Cruz Warriors (11-8) fell to the Raptors 905 (7-14), 114-109, on Friday evening at Kaiser Permanente Arena.

Guard Donovan Williams led the Warriors with 27 points and added six rebounds. Guard Kendric Davis contributed 20 points and nine assists, and forward Javonte Green came off the bench to add 14 points and 12 rebounds. Center Amida Brimah notched 12 points and 13 rebounds and two-way guard Pat Spencer had 11 points, 10 rebounds and five assists in the loss.

Raptors two-way guard Javon Freeman-Liberty led both teams with 35 points and 14 rebounds. Two-way forward Jontay Porter finished with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists and forward Justise Winslow collected 14 points and 13 rebounds.

Santa Cruz started the contest strong, taking an early 11-2 advantage before the Raptors 905 could find their footing. Williams led the initial charge for the Warriors, scoring 11 of the team's first 18 points. The Sea Dubs slowly widened the gap throughout the quarter to lead by 16 points and end the frame with the advantage, 34-18. Key adjustments on the defensive end helped Santa Cruz enter the break with a 59-45 lead.

An alley-oop dunk from Warriors guard Jimmy Whitt helped Santa Cruz extend their lead by as many as 24 points early in the third quarter, but the Raptors 905 fought back late in the frame to close the gap to just 83-73. The 905 continued to close the Santa Cruz advantage in the fourth quarter until a Freeman-Liberty layup secured their first lead of the game, 100-99. The Sea Dubs battled to keep the Raptors from building an advantage, however the 905 tied the game at 107 to send the thriller into overtime. The Warriors started strong in extra time with a Brimah block converting into an alley-oop dunk. The Raptors responded with seven unanswered points to seal their victory, 114-109, in Santa Cruz's first overtime loss of the season.
