8th Inning Rally Edges Naturals Past Frisco for Series Win
August 15, 2021 - Texas League (TL)
Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release
The Northwest Arkansas Naturals rallied for two runs in the eighth inning, to edge out a 4-2 win over the Frisco Roughriders on Sunday afternoon, both to claim a series win this week at Arvest Ballpark as well as a season series win, six games to five.
Blake Perkins and Jimmy Govern were responsible for all four of the Naturals runs in the series finale, with both driving in two each. After Frisco scored minutes into the start of the game, Govern tied the score in the second with an RBI single that brought home Meibrys Viloria from second base.
Perkins connected on his sixth home run of the season in the fourth inning, a solo shot to left field that at the time gave the Naturals 2-1 lead. It was the switch hitter's first of the season hitting right-handed, as his first five of the year came from the left side.
The RoughRiders tied the score at two in the fifth before the combination of Andrés Sotillet, Daniel Tillo (MLB Pipeline's No. 20 Royals' prospect) and Collin Snider combined to hold Frisco scoreless into the eighth, giving the Naturals a chance to come back and win.
Freddy Fermin drew a one-out walk in the eighth and was brought to third on a Brewer Hicklen (MLB Pipeline's No. 25 Royals' prospect) double that forced a Frisco pitching change.
Against the Rangers 2021 draft pick Chase Lee and with the infield playing in, Perkins grounded a ball to second base and Fermin scored from third on the fielder's choice, just ahead of a tag from the Riders' catcher to take a 3-2 lead.
With Hicklen on third, Govern laid down a textbook squeeze bunt that scored Hicklen as a run of insurance.
Snider kept Frisco (52-37) off the board again in the ninth, securing the third consecutive win at home for the club, only the second time they've won three straight at Arvest Ballpark this season.
Left-hander Drew Parrish earned a no-decision, despite a solid starter where he struck out four across 5.0 innings, while allowing just two runs on four hits.
After an off day Monday, Northwest Arkansas (47-42) heads to Tulsa for six games at the Drillers, before returning home for a two-week homestand with Springfield and Corpus Christi.
