CHARLESTON, S.C. - A two-run double by the RiverDogs ruined an otherwise-strong outing for Matt Campbell out of the bullpen in Charleston's 5-3 series opening victory over the BlueClaws.

Campbell was removed from the ballgame with two outs in the 8th inning with runners on 1st and 3rd base, and closer Ryan Duke allowed a double to the first batter he faced to allow both runners to score and break the 3-3 tie. Both runs were charged to Campbell who had not allowed a run in 3.1 innings up to that point, and his record dropped to 0-1 after being charged with the loss.

Lakewood's starting pitcher Ethan Stewart was given the no-decision with three earned runs in 4.1 innings pitched. He entered the night with the third best ERA in the South Atlantic League with 1.33, but saw it climb to 2.19. Wednesday was the first start of the season in which Stewart allowed more than one run.

Bob Stumpo continued his hot hitting for the BlueClaws with a 3-for-5 night and drove home the only three runs Lakewood scored in the game. Since being added to the roster from Lakewood, Stumpo is 8-for-13 (.615) with five RBI.

The series continues Thursday with Game 2 of the three-game series at Joseph J. Riley Jr. Ballpark. Colin Kleven (1-2, 5.03) will take the ball for the BlueClaws and will be opposed by Charleston's William Oliver (1-2, 3.86). First pitch for Thursday's game is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
