Savannah, GA - Savannah Sand Gnats infielder, TJ Rivera, was named the South Atlantic League (SAL) Player of the week for the week of April 23-29, 2012. Rivera's stats for this past week were as follows: .429 AVG /.467 OBP/ .786 SLG. Rivera played in six games, going 12-for-28 with a double, three home runs, 11 RBI, five runs scored and three stolen bases.

Rivera is currently batting .389 and is third on the SAL batting leader board, through 4/30/12.

A native of Bronx, New York, Rivera was signed as a non-drafted free agent in 2011. Rivera split time in 2011 between Kingsport (R) and Brooklyn (Short-Season A), with a combined batting average of .301 in 42 games played.

"It's great to look atop the leader board and see TJ in the top three," said John Katz, Sand Gnats team president. "We've become used to seeing our pitchers up there, but we're excited to see this team doing it with their bats, too."

The Sand Gnats return home tonight for a seven-game homestand as they take on Delmarva (MD) (5/2 - 5/5) and Lakewood (NJ) (5/5 - 5/8).
