Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (May 2, 2012) -- The Augusta GreenJackets used a four- run eighth inning to reclaim the lead en route to a 9-6 win over the Kannapolis Intimidators on Wednesday night at CMC-NorthEast Stadium.

Reliever Daniel Webb (0-5) took the loss for Kannapolis after firing three perfect innings before allowing the first four batters of the eighth inning to reach base. Augusta's Brett Krill, Eric Sim and Carlos Wiloughby contributed RBI-singles in the eighth inning, and Steven Upchurch walked Kelby Tomlinson with the bases loaded to bring in another run.

Kannapolis had taken the lead in the seventh inning when Collin Kuhn was hit by a pitch and Ross Wilson tripled him home. Wilson then scored on a Grant Buckner single, one of his team-leading three hits in the game, for a 6-5 lead heading into the eighth.

Kevin Couture (1-1) earned the win for Augusta while Cody Hall notched his league-leading sixth save despite allowing the Intimidators to bring the tying run to the plate with two outs in the ninth inning.

The game started with both teams getting on the scoreboard thanks to outfield errors. In the first inning with two outs and runners on the corners, Augusta's Brett Krill lifted a ball into right field that Mark Haddow dropped, allowing both runners to score. Michael Mergenthaler followed with an RBI-single to give the GreenJackets an early 3-0 lead.

Kannapolis responded in the bottom of the first on Leighton Pangilinan's two-run home run (2). Haddow atoned for his earlier error with a leadoff triple in the second inning and scored to tie the game on a Collin Kuhn single.

Intimidators starter Kevin Vance worked four innings, allowing five runs (two earned) on five hits with a pair of strikeouts and a walk in a no decision.

Tomorrow RHP Myles Jaye makes his season debut for the Intimidators against Augusta's RHP Clayton Blackburn (0-1, 2.95) on Thirsty Thursday presented by Promats. First pitch at CMC-NorthEast Stadium is at 7:05 p.m. For ticket information, call the box office at (704) 932-3267 or visit www.IntimidatorsBaseball.com.
