Inland Empire 66ers News Release
San Bernardino, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers were shutout 4-0 by the Lancaster JetHawks on
Friday at San Manuel Stadium. The loss was first time in 2016 that the Sixers failed to score at
least one run in a game; the Sixers were the last club in the California League to be completely
stymied in the run column this year.
The JetHawks (44-41, 1-,6) tallied what proved to be the only run they would need in the first
inning against 66ers righty Jared Ruxer (0-1) when Bobby Boyd walked to open the game on
four pitches. Boyd, a late addition to the lineup, promptly stole second and third bases to give
him 30 thefts on the season. Trent Woodward followed with a RBI double to get Lancaster on
the board. Lancaster made it 2-0 in the fifth when Jamie Ritchie tagged a ground-rule double
and later scored on Antonio Nunez' sac fly. Ruxer went five innings allowing two runs on four
hits with three walks and six Ks in his Cal League debut.
Lancaster righty Rogelio Armenteros rolled as the 22-year- old tossed six innings of two-hit
shutout ball with three walks and eighth Ks. Inland Empire (30-56, 7-9) got three hitless innings
of stellar relief from Lancaster native Winston Lavendier. The southpaw allowed just a walk and
fanned three on the evening.
Inland Empire loaded the bases in the eighth inning with one out but JetHawks closer Jacob
Dorris induced a double-play ball on the first pitch he threw to escape the jam. Lancaster
padded its lead in the ninth when Brooks Marlow tagged a two-run homer, his third of the
season, to make it 4-0. Dorris allowed a walk but no more in the bottom of the frame to secure
his fifth save. Tim Arakawa was 2-for- 2 for the Sixers with a double and two walks. Woodward
had a pair of doubles for the JetHawks while Drew Ferguson took four walks on a total of 17
pitches.
The series continues on Saturday at 7:05 pm. The contest can be heard live on 66ers.com and
