Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Adelanto, CA-- The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes snapped a brief two-game skid on Friday night, hammering the High Desert Mavericks in the opening game of a four-game series by a score of 16-5.
After letting a couple of leads slip away over their last two games in San Bernardino, the Quakes made sure that it wouldn't happen for a third straight game, as they established a season-high with 16 runs, with all nine starters collecting at least one hit and eight of nine enjoying multi-hit games.
The Heritage Field crowd in Adelanto witnessed the Quakes jump out to a massive 12-0 lead after three innings, as the Quakes pounded four homers, including a grand slam by Matt Beaty, Rancho's first of the year.
Tim Locastro opened the scoring in the first, as his solo homer two batters into the game made it a 1-0 contest. Edwin Rios followed with a double and then later scored on a Michael
Ahmed RBI hit, giving the Quakes a 2-0 advantage.
Locastro and Rios struck again in the second, as Locastro's ground ball brought home Garrett Kennedy, while Rios followed with a two-run shot to left field, making it a 5-0 game.
The Quakes scored seven times in the third to put it away. Joey Curletta swatted his ninth homer of the year and second in as many nights, giving Rancho a 7-0 lead. After an RBI single from Erick Mejia made it 8-0, Matt Beaty capped the seven-run frame with a grand slam, his sixth home run of the year and third in High Desert, making it 12-0 and chasing High Desert starter David Ledbetter (3-7).
Quakes' starter Josh Sborz quietly turned in four solid innings of work, as the Dodgers continue to limit his innings to four per start. Sborz gave up just one run, as the Mavs got on the board in the fourth, thanks to a Travis Demeritte RBI single, making it 12-1.
Felipe Gonzalez (2-3) came on in the fifth and qualified for the win, as he allowed a total of four runs, two earned, over four innings of relief.
Rios connected for his eighth homer of the year and second of the night, also scoring his fifth run of the night, tying a franchise record in the seventh inning.
Michael Ahmed highlighted a two-run ninth, as he connected for his eighth round-tripper of the year and Rancho's season-high sixth of the night, making it 16-5.
On Saturday night, Rancho (10-6, 52-34) will send Andrew Sopko (9-1) to the mound, as he looks for his team-leading tenth win of the year. His mound opponent will be High Desert's Cole Wiper (6-3), with first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm.
¬â¹After the Quakes' eight-game road trip, Rancho returns to LoanMart Field on Wednesday, July 13th for a Terra Vista Animal Hospital Bark in the Ballpark. tickets are still available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. Go Quakes!
