Inland Empire 66ers News Release
Lake Elsinore, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino trailed early to the Lake Elsinore Storm on Tuesday but used a pair of big innings to secure the club's first road win of the year 12-7. Inland Empire got homers from Spencer Brown and Braxton Martinez as well as dominant bullpen work from Julio Goff (2-0) and was aided by shoddy Storm (5-2) defense (six errors).
The 66ers (3-3) fell behind in the first when the Storm notched three in the first highlighted by Jack Stronach's second homer of the season. Brown got a run back in the second for the Sixers with a solo shot to right off Storm starter Carlos Guarate. It was Brown's first professional homer. Trailing 4-1 heading in the third, Inland Empire unloaded for four runs capped by Martinez' two run homer to left, his second of the year and part of a three-hit game for the St. Louis, MO native that included a single and a triple. With the game tied 5-5 in the sixth the 66ers batted around scoring seven times highlighted in an inning highlighted by RBI singles from Starlin Gill, Kyren Paris and marred by four Lake Elsinore errors. Lake Elsinore rallied for two runs in the eight but reliever Dakota Donovan got out of an inherited jam with a double-play and set the Storm down in order on strikes in the ninth to finish off the contest. Goff struck out nine batters in four innings of work for the Sixers while Paris finished with two hits and two more stolen bases. The Oakley, CA product is eight-for-eight in stolen base attempts through six games.
